GUATEMALA

Intense rains directly and indirectly affected more than 52,000 people in the departments of Chiquimula, Guatemala, Quiché, Retalhuleu, Suchitepéquez and Zacapa. Authorities issued a state of public calamity.

NICARAGUA

16 aftershocks have been reported following the 5.9 magnitude earthquake occurred on 14 September. So far 316 aftershocks have been reported. Another 3.5 magnitude earthquake, 15 kilometers in depth, was registered in Boquita and Casares - this earthquake was caused by a collision between the Coco and Caribe plates. The Momotombo volcano continues to its microseismic activity with moderate gas emissions.

MIGRATION IN CENTRAL AMERICA

A Haitian migrant was found dead in a shelterin Guanacaste, Costa Rica. An additional 30 migrants were found in a state of dehydration in a truck in Nicaragua. The migrants were sent to a health center for care. Panamanean authorities are opening a new shelter in Darien with 110 tents (with a capacity of 550-600 migrants).

HONDURAS

Authorities from the Permanent Commission of Contingencies (COPECO) maintain a green alert for 48 hours due to the flooding of the Ulua River caused by heavy rains over western Honduras.
The alert is in effect for the municipalities of: Potrerillos, Pimienta and San Manuel in Cortes, El Progreso and El Negrito in Yoro and the Ramal del Tigre in the department of Atlantida.

BOLIVIA

Losses caused by the prolonged drought throughout the country have reached US$ 122 million and are expected to continue to rise as the drought continues. The country is expected to produce 450,000 tons less of food than other years. The most affected crops are wheat and sorghum (80% less), and corn and sunflower (70% less).

PERU

The National Institute for Civil Defense (INDECI) delivered 25.2 tons of food to the Regional Government of Loreto to help meet the needs of people affected by floods in various locations in the province of Putumayo and Napo District in the province of Maynas.
